Outer Barks Dog Gifts

in memoriam

We lost a wonderful close friend recently, a woman who loved life and her dogs with a passion.  Below is a statement of her belief in  love -  the love of another person, the love of an animal, and the love of God.  God bless Alyce Askew Bender (1920-2007).

Soliloquy To Love

Love is a mosiaic of sparkling filaments weaving each of our loves together in a brilliant kaleidoscope of glowing splendor.  We bow our head in wonderment as we listen to the music of our heart with its  largos and allegros.  When we gaze upon our beloved, it is with the eyes of our souls.  And when we stand upon the summit of our years and look back upon the valley of our youth, love in all its many moods will be the scales upon which the worth of our life will be judged.

If we can love a puppy, a patch of sunlight diffused through a curtain, a blade of grass, the thunder of waves upon a shore, a little child asleep in a crib, we can feel we have walked with God.  To love another who loves you exceeds the limit of human joy.  It is the telescope through which we mortals catch a glimpse of Heaven.

If we love whatever is loveable in those around us, we shall become worthy followers of Him whose nams is Love.

So when the clouds are dark and dismal
And the clock is ticking slow
Take time to say I love you and your
World will be as new.

Someone waits vainly for these words unsaid-
Someone needs love as the hungry need bread -
So take the time to love,
With emotion unfurled ---
For Love is the greatest thing in the world.
